There is the Optifine bug in their GIT issues as well, get Optifine author to fix. You can also select View > Exit Full Screen in the menu bar or press Ctrl+Command+F (on Big Sur or earlier) or Fn+F (on Monterey or later) to exit full-screen mode. The Fullscreen-Windowed-Minecraft mod, doesn't fix the problem either. The simplest of solutions, is to use the minecraft vanilla code to handle window scaling and resizing, It works for AMD, Intel and nVidia. This i tested on Linux mint 18.1 with nvidia proprietary drivers. The window frame will simply anchor itself to the top left corner and the rest of monitor is black. If that doesnt help, pause the game (by pressing Esc ). The only exception to the bug here is in 1.7.10 where F11 into full screen will not scale the window to use the whole monitor. How do I Minimise Minecraft By default, F11 ( Fn + F11 on some keyboards) toggles fullscreen mode. Open any map, new or old with Optifine default settingsį11 into full screen and F11 into windowed mode to get the black window, repeat F11 untill your satisfied the bug is there What I cant do is reduce the canvas on my screen by grabbing the corner, or reduce it to the dock by double clicking, both of which I could do last week. After that the pop-down appeared and I could exit full-screen mode. I right clicked it in the tool bar and selected Restore which maximised the window. But that was because the window wasnt maximised. It opens up fine I can do all the tasks I need and I can export. when in full screen mode the Exit full screen pop-down wouldnt appear. Install Optifine to Minecraft with installer Everything has been fine but it started to run slow and chopy, now its gone really weird. This happens on windows 10 any monitor display resolution. I also tested a laptop with nvidia graphics and the bug is not there. It my be a line of code in Optifine that effects AMD only. I have helped hundreds of players on my server over the years with this same bug, that's right the bug has been there for years. A new player will try Optifine for first time and see the black screen, then out of frustration will determine it doesn't work, then remove Optifine forever. If your not okay with Mincraft covering your screen fully, you can press F11 this works in most of the times, but if it does not work you can try Close MINECRAFT (including mincraft launcher) start it again. This is a old bug, its not a big deal to drag the right window frame a few pixels, until the window contents appear, but I can see that its a problem for new players I have helped.
